How much does it effect the sound of the guitar how thick the maple top is, or if it is vener or not.?
How thick is the top on a Gibson Les Paul and on a PRS? What is a vener? Is it a photo?
It’s just a thin veneer – an 1/8th of an inch of maple – 90% of the body is still mahogany. Anybody that says they can hear a difference is fooling themselves. You can hear a slight difference in a solid ash Strat and the mahogany one they recently started making – the mahogany has a slightly darker tone even though the pick-ups are the same, but that’s because the whole body is a different wood. The maple they use is usually “figured” with curls or stripes so it looks really nice, but it doesn’t do anything to the sound of a solid body.
