General Midi
What more do I need to actually start producing music, my setups not working right?

Ive always wanted to make beats. its that simple so i went out bought a yamaha psre403 keyboard, Sony Acid Music Studio (NOT ACID PRO) and i connect them with a Monster USB Cable( is that agood setup?)Apparently acid music studio was not the way to go (i guess its not multi track recording with MIDI or something like that) basically a waste of $70
First of all let me say that I jumped into the producing thing with very little prior knowledge
I use a USB cable so I would be recording through MIDI. I Know What MIDI is used for BUT i dont now how to use it the way i want to. I want to play the keys on my keyboard with the voices from THAT keyboard (not from the software sounds)and for it to record onto the laptop. IS THAT POSSIBLE? apparently not with acid. I never gave Fruityloops a chance but will it do what I want
Can someone give me their opinion on FL and my whole MIDI situation or show that there is a way to use Acid that i dont know of
Tips for starting production in general?

Supposedly theres a free program called Digital Music Notebook to do this. I never worked with this program because I dont produce with a keyboard but I provided a link below that is the page where it explains how to use it with your keyboard. As far as Acid, I have AcidPro and Im not familiar with regular acid. I’ve never hooked a keyboard up to it, but its my understanding that if you wanted to do it in acidpro (and probably regular acid)..you would hook a wire into your computers microphone port, and the other end of the wire into your keyboards OUT port. Then record it just like you would record a microphone…hit the record button in Acid and start playing. As far as Fruity Loops, Ive never figured out how to record vocals in the program (even though the advertisements all claim you can do it)…so I doubt you could do it with a keyboard…But I own Pro Tools Digi 002 with Reason software and I own Fruity Loops. I thought getting Pro Tools would step my game up because thats what all the pros use, but after taking classes on it and everything, I havent touched it in 7 months. Fruity Loops is still my favorite program to produce with. It has horrible sounds in it but if you buy sample libraries with better quality sounds and add them, Fruity Loops is just as good as any other program. So if you are looking to get into producing. I would definately recommend Fruity Loops as a good program just to have, even if you cant use it with your keyboard.
